Nintendo learned from PS3 Japan launch

Japan WiiOf the two next-gen consoles launching this month, Sony got a bit of a head start as the PlayStation 3 is out already while the Wii is still set for release in a couple of days. Given this however, the winds might still blow Nintendo’s way when console figures begin to set in.

Just a couple of days after the Japan launch, it was reported that a total number of 88,400 consoles have already been sold. As a result of this meager number of stocks however, demands have almost not been met by the PlayStation creator.

On the other hand, Nintendo just announced it will provide 400,000 units of Wii at launch for the Japanese market to avoid the same thing happening to their product. There is still no confirmation involving the U.S. launch but it would be remembered a few weeks back that a whopping one million units were promised from day one for the North American market.

“We are still finalising the Australian shipment numbers,” answered Nintendo Australia PR Manager Vispi Bhopti after being asked regarding the matter for the land down under. Given this rather vague remark, we’re kind of leaning towards a big number as well for them. After all, Australians have shown favorable response to Nintendo products including the DS in the past.
