Nintendo makes Wiis harder to mod; D2E drive ICs now encased in epoxy
Reports are coming in that Nintendo has rolled out new D2E drives to keep modders at bay. The new drives now come with ICs set in a hard black epoxy. Pics after the jump.
Reports are coming in that Nintendo has turned to adding epoxy to new D2E drives to keep modders at bay. Check out these pics of the new drives courtesy of the Wii Hacks forum:
As you can see, the drive ICs have been set in black epoxy. While this would certainly make it harder to mod the drives, it’s apparently still possible as the alt points on the bottom are still there. If you have the patience, the epoxy can also be dissolved using commercial solutions.
Not a lot of these new drives have been spotted so far, but we’re thinking that it’s only a matter of time before Nintendo rolls out more of them.
