Those of you who were expecting to get downloadable content for your Nintendo DS will be disappointed by this news we’re bringing today. According to a report from Gamasutra, a Nintendo representative squashed previous reports that the top-selling handheld will be able to access full downloads through a future Wii channel.
The recent interview New York Times conducted with Nintendo bigwig Reggie Fils-Aime about the supposed DS downloadable content was vetoed with a recent statement issued by Nintendo of America. The representative was quoted saying:
Users can download games to play on Wii and, in the future, the Nintendo DS will be able to receive demo versions of some DS games from Wii, but not the entire game. The demo will be erased once the Nintendo DS is turned off.
Japan has already launched its “Everyone’s Nintendo” Wii channel and it offers a lot of content for many Nintendo titles, as well as DS game demos. While no news has been released when the service will hit other locations, it seems that we’ll all have to be content with merely downloadable DS demos for now.
