Nintendo registers new trademarks, Pikmin trademark renewed

Nintendic reports that according to Gamefront, Nintendo has registered a few new product names at the Japanese patent office. The newly-registered names contain a mix of stuff that Nintendo fans have known about along with a couple others that could probably lead to quite a bit of speculation.

On the gaming side, Nintendo Magic was among the trademarks registered. Apparently, Nintendo Magic is a magician sim title for the DS that Nintendo plans to bring to North America this November. The Pikmin trademark was also renewed, so a new title could also be in the works. Shigeru Miyamoto has said before that we haven’t seen the last of Pikmin.

There’s also something called Soma Bringer. We’re not italicizing this one yet since we’re not exactly sure if it’s a game. The “soma” here could be referring to the ritual drink, but then again it could also be the Greek word for body. There’s also a puzzle called the Soma cube. It could be anything, really.

Nintendo also registered a trademark for the Mii Contest Channel. This looks like it’ll be related to the company’s “Check Mii Out” Mii contest channel announced at E3. Speaking of contests, there’s also a new trademark called Mii Audition. This will probably be tied to the Check Mii Out Channel, but we couldn’t help but think about the Korean dance MMO title Audition. Miis did grow out of a canned rhythm game, after all.

Finally, there’s the Wii Body Controller and the Wii Handle. The former could be the final name for the Wii Balance Board while the latter could be a replacement for the Wii’s Friend Codes. Feel free to join in the speculation, guys. Leave a comment below and share your thoughts.
