Nintendo Short Cuts Showcase: Filmmakers invited

Given the number of crazy fan-made videos we’ve been watching in the QJ.net blogs, we imagine plenty of fans will find this latest Nintendo press wire most enticing. The company has just announced that they are inviting prospective filmmakers to create short films in line with the Nintendo Short Cuts Showcase event.

Going into further details, entrees are advised that the film must be between three to five minutes long, and must be Nintendo-themed in some sort of way. No limits have been stated as to what genre the film may fall into; submissions can be live action or animated, dramas or comedies – it’s all up to the creators. Winners of this contest stand to have their work screened at the Short Cuts Showcase event, among other prizes:

  • First Place:
    • Trip to New York City for the winner and a guest
    • Film screened at Nintendo Short Cuts Showcase at Rockefeller Center
    • US$ 10,000 in cash
    • Exclusive meeting with Craig Hatkoff, co-founder of the Tribeca Film Festival
    • Wii & Wii software
    • Nintendo DS Lite & Nintendo DS software
  • Second and Third Place:
    • Film screened at Nintendo Short Cuts Showcase at Rockefeller Center
    • Wii console and Wii software
  • 7 Finalists:
    • Nintendo DS Lite & Nintendo DS software

The film submission deadline is on June 6, 2007, 11:59 p.m. PDT. The Nintendo Short Cuts Showcase is expected to take place at the Top of the Rock Observation Deck at the Rockefeller Center during Rock CenterÂ’s annual summer film showcase, from June 19 to 22.
