Nintendo smashes hopes for Wii Sports 2… for now

Miyamoto serves!Awww… and we were sort of hoping to see figure skating and professional ballroom dancing to be included in the next installment, too. In any case, Nintendo has responded to the rumors which were generated by several French reports that pretty much got everyone’s hopes up that Wii Sports 2 is already in development. Nintendo dismisses these reports as “pure rumour and speculation”.

But considering the facts that the reaction to Wii Sports has been positive, if not gleaming, as well as the tidbit that Wii Sports has proven to be the Wii’s most popular title in Japan, PLUS people have gotten so excited about the thing that they’ve actually injured themselves while playing it… how could everyone not be tempted by a sequel which would probably have swimming and basketball in it?

So come on, Nintendo, you KNOW you want to.

In the meantime, while we practice our tango moves, we’ll be keeping watch to see if this rumor will eventually snowball into something more concrete.
