This week is heavy on the Wii. We’ve got publishers and first party devs all looking to pack more games for the Wii. To cut a long story short, the Nintendo Wii is gonna get swarmed by new games in 2009. There’s some good news for the DS and the homebrew side too, so be sure to read up on the recap, brought to you by the Nintendo Weekend Warrior.

Games FTWii

  • Lotsa games! - Image 1Care for a little scare? XSEED has announced that they’ll be releasing the Ju-on game in the US as well. No, it won’t have Sarah Michelle Gellar like the US version of The Grudge. What it will have is the clicking moans, long hair, and creepy blank expressions that we all love The Grudge for. Link
  • Here is a classic example of why we can’t always trust publishers when they’re debunking rumors. After saying that Metroid Prime Trilogy was “purely rumor and speculation” over a year ago, Nintendo announces that the collection indeed exists, complete with price and a release date. Talk about coming clean. Link
  • A week just won’t go by lately without a juicy rumor. This one is about one of the two games that Capcom hasn’t announced yet. Word on the street is that the game is Devil May Cry 5, and it’s heading for the Wii. Link
  • Speaking in an interview with Games Industry, the guys at Bethesda said that they’ve got something big for the Wii, if all goes well that is. Link
  • Speaking of big thing for the Wii, High Voltage Software is bringing The Conduit to E3, plus a fresh new IP that they described to be “beyond jaw-dropping.” Link

Donald and Goofy - Image 1Two hits for the DS

  • Donald and Goofy must be tired of being NPC sidekicks to Sora. Good for them, good for us – according to new info based on the latest Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days trailers, the funny duck-n-dog duo will also be playable. Link
  • Another peep down the ESRB rating bin yields some cool info again. A new Star Wars Battlefront game is coming to the PSP and the DS. Link

Nintendo at a glance

  • Nintendo - Image 1We’ve seen some pricey gaming gear over the last few months, and even the Queen of England now packs some serious gaming bling. THQ gave the big Q a gold-plated Wii for her royal gaming needs. Link
  • Earlier this week, Iwata-sama revealed that there are several first-party games coming to the Wii this year. Although he didn’t name drop on the titles, we know that the lineup will include Wii Sports Resort. Considering that the releases would be first party, it would be very likely that these releases would also come with support for the new motion sensor. Link

Homebrew, anyone?

  • Wii homebrew - Image 1 Wiibrewer Crayon adds more color to his WiiBuilder with an update – you can now use Unicode path in file names. At least, that’s what’s supposed to happen. Link
  • Exploit fever may be thriving in the PSP homebrew scene right now, but the Wiibrew community also has some of their own. One of these is Bannerbomb, an exploit that allows the user to load a .dol or .elf file from an SD card. It also allows users to run homebrew on System Menu 4.0 and all previous versions. The new update fixes some bugs and added new features. Link
  • The Quake ports are still coming in, and we’ve got one for Quake II this time. Q2Rev, although in its early stages of development, is fully playable like its previous release. If you’re missing the old Rocket Launcher spamming and the Rail-gunning, this ought to bring back some pleasant memories mutilation. Link
  • On the DS brew side of the fence, the hit homebrew game Powder just got a new release from Jeff Lait, packing so many new features that made the long wait worth it all. Link

It’s been a week already? That was sure fast. Anyway, that’s it for now, check back again with us next week!
