Nintendo Wii Acquires CRI Middleware Audio and Video Tools
CRI Middleware, one of Japan’s development tool providers, has thrown its official support for the upcoming Nintendo Wii. CRI Middleware’s support includes its four development libraries namely the ADX, Sofdec, Sound Factory and ROFS.
On Wii, Sofdec will compress a 10-minute, 6Mbps bit rate movie to 450MB and support 60 frames-per-second progressive movie playback. Meanwhile, ADX allows up to 16 simultaneous audio streams and supports the playback of streams from multiple audio files. Sound Factory is a sound-authoring system while ROFS provides a virtual file system to developers. All four development libraries are currently being used for other game systems.
