When competitors, Sony and Microsoft, are concentrating on making complicated games laden with high-definition graphics that you only get to enjoy on an equally high definition TV, what does Nintendo do? Go the other way of course.

“What does the average household have, what kind of TV do t hey have, and how can we find new ways for them to interact with the TV they have? With Wii, you can connect it to a high definition TV or a non high definition TV, and you’re going to have this great experience. Whereas the other consoles, without the high definition you’re not getting everything you’re paying for.” says Miyamoto.

Not to say that games made by Nintendo lack any of those, but their games are less-threatening to neophyte gamers and casual gamers to actually buy and try. Especially with Nintendo’s motion-sensitive Wii, that seems to target everyone in the household, offering interactive entertainment for everyone. The good people at Nintendo designed the Wii remote with this in mind.

“Once they get their hands on it, they’re going to realize t his isn’t just a video game system for my hardcore video game-playing kids, this is an interactive entertainment system for everyone in the household.”

But experienced gamers may find it hard to adapt to th is avant-garde remote by Sony, that would require them to move around or jump up and down, when they’ve been so used being on the sofa mashing gamepad buttons.

“We’ve been showing everyone with these great wild swings, which is a lot of fun, but the fact of the matter is if you want to you can play in much the same style as you did before. You can sit with Zelda and just with little movements you can control the game perfectly well. Similarly with tennis, by kind of slapping the Wii remote against your hand you can play the game that way if you really want to. But it’s more fun to actually swing.”

Since connectivity is core to the DS and Wii, the hardware to enable the two to interact with each other have been already provided. This would allow the users to download to the Wii and then transfer that to their DS.

Even though Nintendo has been the laughing end of jokes for naming their game console as Wii, Miyamoto just laughs it off by saying that he is particularly interested what the French-speakers think of it. But with the Nintendo Wii doing leaps and bounds in the gaming industry Miyamoto and Nintendo proves once again that gaming is no laughing matter.
