A lover’s promise is rarely trusted. Is it because more people are cynical about promises these days? What if a company like Nintendo makes a promise, will you believe and trust that they’ll go through anything to fulfill it? Games used to be for us younger folks, but according to Nintendo, 35% of sales were attributed to people over 35 years old. Just goes to show that the idea of handheld games are no longer just for kids, but for everyone at any age.
Next, they showed a lot of game previews. Learn English was a favorite among the international crowd in the GC. The player needs to listen to the text being read and then write it down on the touch screen. Important to note is that the player uses their hearing, seeing, and touching sense here. Studies show that the more senses used in studying a particular subject, the better the lesson absorption. Very nice educational game, let’s hope they turn out more games like this.
Next, the speaker goes up and presses the “start” key and the screens flickers to life! Trailers galore! They showed the following trailers for upcoming games: Super Mini Mario World, 42 All-Time Classics, Tenchu, Pokemon, Big Brain Academy, New Super Mario Bros, Hotel Dusk 215, Starfox Command, Tomb Raider:Legend, Sudoku Master, and more.
After the eye-candy presentation for the DS, naturally people will be expecting the Wii presentation. So a group of dancing people appear on stage. A little girl approaches them. They explain Wii to her. One of the dance troupe goes over to the girl and asks her if she has a Nintendo DS. She says that she doesn’t have one and instead produces a Wii controller. She plays tennis with the group and the presenter has a hard time with the girl. Is she the next Venus Williams?
The main man of Nintendo Germany comes out and declares that “Sports is currently the new trend at Nintendo.” They even have the German football player, Philip Lahm play Wii on the field. They then choose sides and play…Super Mario Strikers! They choose characters (Bowser, Peach, Mario, and Donkey Kong) and stadiums, then off they go! Lahm digs it. They do special moves, super shots, in the game to showcase the graphics and ease of control. In the end the TV presenter wins and proudly says to the audience that they can try if for themselves later. Whoa. Makes you wish you were there, eh?
More trailers for Wii! Wii Sports Tennis, Wii Sports Golf, Orchestra, Super Mario Galaxy, Wii Plane, Metroid Prime 3, Table Tennis (not the Rockstar version), WarioWare, Baseball, Red Steel from Ubi Soft, then Zelda: Twilight Princess. If you’ve noticed, most of the beginning games are sports-related, we surmise that using the Wii controller for sporting games would be a great introduction to non-gamers out there. It’s interactive and fun for everyone.
They end their presentation with “Wii prove our promise. Playing is believing.” Promise delivered. If lovers can only give a show like Nintendo’s probably we’d believe them.
