No Diablo III in 2010 – better a late release than a crappy game

Pro: We’re not gonna see the bad habit of “release now, patch later” from Blizzard.

Con: We’re seeing a lot of “release later, release later.”

Blizzard has already made it clear earlier this month when they listed Diablo III for release in the “next few years.” Rob Pardo concurs, saying that the game “…is not going to be out next year.” According to the Blizzard exec, “We always announce all of our games too early. We realize that and go, ‘You know what? Next time we’re not going to do that.’ And then we always fail at that.”

He also pointed out that Blizzard would much rather release a game late, than launch it on time but just doesn’t work. The next time they announce a game, Pardo will follow a new perspective – “Here’s the game we’re working on, we’re going to start talking about it and who knows when it ships.”
