Not enough Wiis to go around in the UK
Rob Lowe (of Ninty UK) was pleased with the UK/Euro Wii launch (and can’t resist taking a jab at Sony). He wouldn’t be pleased, though, when he learns that there are a few people who weren’t pleased with the launch – and it’s not Sony that BBC is talking about.
While Nintendo has done its best to assure ample supplies of the Wii across the Isles, there was enough of a shortage to actually have some pre-orders from retailers delayed. These disappointed folk have emailed BBC about their frustrations – not to mention the aftermath (In one case, the guy didn’t get his Wii yet, but he received the game he pre-ordered with the console.).
In the source article, there are a selection of mixed comments over these cancelled preorders. Some noted how lucky they were that their preorder site had enough stock, and thus are currently having fun right now. Others however commented that they’re still waiting for their preorder to arrive. A couple in fact noted that the point of preordering was so that they could get the console in time for Christmas without lining up. But according to one mom, “The fact that I had the foresight to pre-order and not disappoint my son means very little as they obviously expect me to camp outside Woolworths for days on end.” One simply cancelled his preorder.
Some of the major retailers (PC World, Currys) cannot guarantee that they would be able to fulfill all preorders before Christmas. A spokesperson for Woolworths noted the difficulty in getting stock from Nintendo, but assured that they would be able to meet their preorders by “next Tuesday or Wednesday”.
