Not Every Smash Bro. Will Return
Through translations by NarutoFan and SmashBoards, Masahiro Sakurai‘s Super Smash Bros. Brawl plans have become apparent. He says that some previous characters will be taken out, even though that might not be the answer we wanted. They spent a lot of time and effort thinking of twenty-six characters last time and it took a lot of work to get there. This time, they are trying to include more characters but don’t think it will be possible to have as many as last time. This means the increase likely won’t be 100% like last time. Expect maybe 30 – 40 characters max. This time, they want to re-work all the characters. I repeat, the characters will not be the same as last time. Even though there are 70 people working on it, there’s a limit to how much they can create.
I’m a bit disappointed that he’ll be removing characters, but the most troubling is the other information we got. The speed of the game will be “moderated.” Someone complained it was too fast. I hope this does not happen. SSBM‘s speed was perfect. You might notice that SSB seems sluggish after playing the GameCube edition. Please Samurai, don’t do this…
Also, they’re working on expanding the air game. This will be a hit or miss. The air game is the most interesting part of SSBM so we’ll see how this goes. Depending on what they do, SHFFLing might become obsolete…
Back to the topic of character removal, who do I think are most likely to go? I’d say the “clones” as people refer to them don’t all have a high chance of coming back. I don’t think he’s thinking of removing too many characters.
Dr. Mario – He’s gone. The general public doesn’t even know that he’s different from Mario. Sorry Doc players, better get used to Mario.
Falco – The character will probably stay but with a moveset. It’s really a shame because Falco and Fox are nothing alike. I wouldn’t even consider them clones.
Ganondorf – No way he’s leaving. I’m certain he’ll get a new moveset though. Maybe he’ll even be able to use that sword he wields on the victory scene.
Pichu – Pretty certain he’s gone. Pichu has no redeeming features whatsoever except for pretty strong smash attacks and above average speed.
Roy – Almost certain he’s gone. Worse than Marth in almost every aspect, the true reason he’s gone is likely because his purpose has been served. He was put in SSBM to advertise for his upcoming GBA game. He is no longer needed.
Young Link – He’s my favourite and, sadly, I’d say he’s gone. They might replace him with a cel-shaded Link, but chances are a bit low. Kind of a bummer when you consider Young Link is the “true” Link from the series…
