NPD: Force Unleashed dominated September, overall game sales down 6% from last year
This year’s September software sales hasn’t quite reached the levels of last year’s Halo 3-driven numbers, going down 6% for overall sales of US$ 616 million. This year’s September software sales hasn’t quite reached the levels of last year’s Halo 3-driven numbers, going down 6% for overall sales of US$ 616 million. Nevertheless, some multiplatform and first-party titles have managed to post impressive figures.
Despite some backlash from critics, LucasArts‘ multiplatform release, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, PSP, DS) still sold over a million copies, half of which was for the game’s Xbox 360 version.
Nintendo’s Wii Fit also continued to put up some big numbers along with EA’s Rock Band 2 (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii).
Here are the top ten games in terms of units sold for September:
- Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (Xbox 360) – 610,000
- Wii Fit (Wii) – 518,000
- Rock Band 2 (Xbox 360) – 363,000
- Mario Kart (Wii) – 353,000
- Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (PS3) – 325,000
- Mercenaries 2 (Xbox 360) – 297,000
- Wii Play w/Wii-mote (Wii) – 243,000
- Madden NFL 09 (Xbox 360) – 224,000
- Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (Wii) – 223,000
- Madden NFL 09 (PS2) – 158,000
