Eh? Girls play video games? Kidding, just kidding.

So does that mean we’ll see more fangirls shouting “PWN!” when playing Grand Theft Auto IV online? Probably not. The report shows that girl gamers are more into social networking and virtual world online games.

Then again, the survey was only limited to the age group of 2-14. According to the data, tweens (aged 9-12) comprise the age group that are migrating to video games, looking to interactive gaming to look for friends while stuck at home. Young teens (13-14) are also included in the girl gamer population.

The report found that the most popular subjects for girls of all ages are fashion, clothes and accessories, books, music, and videos. Looks like Boogie was right on the money when it announced its sequel, Boogie Superstar, which is aimed at girls.

Doubtless the rise in their numbers were helped along by the rise of the Wii, and the increased popularity of casual games. From there, and judging from the points of interest that the survey found, I doubt we’ll see a rise in hardcore girl gamers anytime soon.
