According to the data the company has gathered, the company has increased its market share to 17.7%, a 7.2% increase from the same period in 2006.

Another reason for NPD to name the company as the number one publisher is the success of Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, PC) which was the top title across all platforms in terms of both units sold and money made.

“For the first time in our history, we were the #1 U.S. publisher for the calendar year,” notes Robert Kotick, Chairman and CEO of Activision. “We are well on our way to delivering sixteen years of record revenue growth and by far our most profitable year ever.”
