NPD US software sales topped by Sims 2 IKEA expansion
It’s like even before Will Wright‘s Spore releases, Electronic Arts keeps shoveling more and more moolah into the vault. Someone definitely did something right by getting IKEA involved in the latest expansion to The Sims 2, because the brand-approved luxuries tucked away inside every twenty buck box managed to overtake every PC retail game offered in the US. The full top ten list follows at the full story.
EA and Maxis are probably patting each other on the back for pushing out The Sims 2 IKEA Home Stuff Expansion to retail, for the latest content addition to The Sims 2 has been named first place in the last month’s retail race. But it appears that Blizzard has something else to boast: five games out of the top ten are all their games.
It would appear that right after the game division announced Diablo III, a huge Diablo fever ran rampant. We guess it was a fever so high, that the company’s recompilation of Diablo I and Diablo II – the Diablo Battle Chest – has beat the sales of the newer World of Warcraft and sat proudly at number two.
Spore Creature Creator is also still staying strong, besting the sales of even The Sims 2 Double Deluxe. The top ten games from NPD Group’s software sales ending July 5 are as follows:
- The Sims 2 IKEA Home Stuff Expansion Pack
- Diablo Battle Chest
- Spore Creature Creator
- The Sims 2 Double Deluxe
- World of Warcraft: Battle Chest
- World of Warcraft
- Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures
- World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade Expansion Pack
- The Sims 2 Free Time Expansion Pack
- Warcraft III Battle Chest
