NYC recreated in Sim City
So this isn’t exactly hot, since the last post of the blog we’re sourcing is dated November 23, but still, it’s amusing enough to at least deserve a mention and get tagged as off-topic.
This is either a case of somebody loving his hometown a bit too much or somebody showing-off. Whichever it is, the guy responsible for The New York City Journals seems so hell bent in recreating his own mini-NY in SimCity. The detail that he/she has put into the city is nothing short of astounding. Just check out the Thanksgiving traffic in FDR Drive near the Queensboro Bridge:
What we’ve noticed is that the blogger tries his best to make his posts as pertinent as possible. If it’s Thanksgiving in the real-world, he’ll try to recreate that in SimCity, and post about it. A dig through his blog to way back to the first post reveals this:
Welcome to the New York City Journal blog! Your source for news and updates about my project of creating a 3D replica of the Big Apple. This recreation goes beyond a static 3D model, this replica actually comes to life in Maxis/Electronic Arts simulation and city-building computer game, SimCity 4. It will include many true to life details of New York all the way down to street level.
The project has been in the works for more than three years and is dedicated to replicating the five boroughs in SimCity. The blog will have features chronicling real news within the city, tourist information/guides, and much more.
We’ll check on his blog again come New Year’s or Christmas, let’s see if he manages to get the Times Square party right.
