Oblivion creators bring us new FPS game Rogue Warrior

Bethesda logoAfter the success of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (PS3, PSP, Xbox360), Bethesda is at it yet again with their new FPS game currently in the works at the Zombie Studios.

Entitled Rogue Warrior, the game was officially revealed to be in the works in the latest issue of Xbox 360 The Official Xbox Magazine. According to the mag, Rogue Warrior will be a team-based, counter-terrorist shooter and will be powered by Unreal Engine 3.

But before you put it down as “another one of those”, read this: the game will make up for its unoriginal concept with its all-original Xbox Live online features – four-player Live co-op, firing online support for up to 24 players, AND the innovative multiplayer tiling system.

Bethesda and Zombie reveal that the multiplayer tiling system will basically allow the players themselves to create and customize the maps they’ll be playing on. You’ll be able to “tile” different sections of pre-existing maps where the three sections that compose each level will be chosen by you and your enemy alternately. For example, you choose one tile and the opposing team chooses another, then a random generator will create the final battlefield out of the 200 possible combinations that you and your opponent choose from.

And also, just for kicks, you won’t be able to know the tile your enemy has chosen (and it works vice versa) so that both of you will have absolutely no idea about the next map you’ll be treading on. Zombie says that this way, users won’t easily get tired of the available game maps by allowing them to create unpredictable combinations of maps and battlefields.

Other than this, we have no other info on Rogue Warrior just yet but the best release date we can hope for is sometime next year. But we will be keeping you guys posted once news reaches our ears so keep checking back with us for further updates.
