Fans of Bethesda‘s Fallout 3 (PS3, Xbox 360, PC) will have something new to look forward to next year. No, not more DLC, but an actual new Fallout game from vets who worked on the first two games in the series (no this isn’t the MMO).

The game, ostensibly titled Fallout: New Vegas and being developed by Obsidian Entertainment, won’t be a sequel to Fallout 3 and will instead be a spin-off that doesn’t affect what Bethesda has cooking for the series.

New Vegas will apparently still be in the style of Fallout 3, but whether it uses the same game engine or not has yet to be revealed. Bethesda marketing VP Pete Hines also stressed that New Vegas will be an RPG:

It’s definitely an RPG. Same sort of experience as what folks got in Fallout 3. It’s not Fallout Tactics, it’s not Brotherhood of Steel. It’s another Fallout game in that universe.

Fallout: New Vegas is currently slated for a 2010 simultaneous release on PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.
