Oh the horror! Warlock Death Coil to have diminishing returns
In the World of Warcraft, the diminishing returns rule basically prevents players from spamming one spell to get the upper hand in PvP or PvE (which would get pretty annoying when you’re on the receiving end). Over at the WoW Forums, poster Blasphemy aired her woes regarding fighting two warlocks at a time in PvP since they “can keep you out of the battle the entire time”.
She’s talking about the Warlock spell called Death Coil. Death Coil is a shadow-based spell that deals direct damage and converts it to healing for the caster – plus the target runs in the opposite direction in horror, literally. It currently has a skill cooldown of two minutes which would be fine if you’re up against just one warlock – with two, they can alternate casting the spell and keep some players out of the fray. Blizzard poster Eyonix had this to say:
We’re actually going to be updating the patch notes soon, with a new note indicating that Death Coil will now be subject to diminishing returns with itself, in the Horror category.
Currently, only Death Coil is in this category.
Oh the horror! Diminishing returns mean that the effects of a spell will be diminished over time (100% spell duration for the first use of the spell, a reduction of 50% on the duration on the second cast, 75% reduction on the third, and the target becomes immune on the fourth cast). Warlocks don’t seem to be too worried about it, though. Three of their crowd control spells have diminishing returns: Fear, Seduction, and Howl of Terror. But we’ll see in the long run how it goes in the World of Warcraft. Stay tuned for more updates on the Public Test Realms (PTR).
