Last week’s 11 released Blu-ray titles catered to a variety of individuals interested in different film genres, music, and even documentaries. Though we won’t be seeing as many titles for release this week, we’re sure to again see a variety of Blu-ray titles, from movies set in different eras to visual essays admiring the beautiful landscape of America.
Two interesting visual essays filmed using High Definition technology from Topics Entertainment, Over America and Over California, are included in this week’s Blu-ray releases. Over California will be showing you powerful images revealing California’s beautiful coastlines, deserts, cities, mountains, and vineyard. Over America on the other hand, will show you the nation’s magnificent landscape and take you to different locations in the country.
Films scheduled for release include some very interesting titles from different film genres: Gone Baby Gone, We Own the Night, and Becoming Jane.
Let’s take a closer look at some of these Blu-ray movies.
Disney and Buena Vista‘s Gone Baby Gone is actor Ben Affleck’s directorial debut. The flick stars Casey Affleck and Michelle Monaghan as two young private detectives hired to investigate the disappearance of a four-year-old girl. The two detectives find out more revealing and disturbing facts surrounding the abduction of the little girl, and learn that things are not always what they seem.
Another interesting film is Sony Pictures‘ We Own the Night starring Walk the Line lead actor Joaquin Phoenix. In this film set in the 80s, Phoenix plays Bobby Green who runs a Russian-owned nightclub called El Caribe. Although Green keeps his distance from the Russian gangster involved in drug trade and operating outside of the club, he gets involved once the police targets those involved in the trade. Green (who changed his name to hide his identity) is actually well-connected with the police – his brother is a police captain and his father the police chief.
Next in the list is Disney and Buena Vista’s Becoming Jane which stars Anne Hathaway of the Princess Diaries fame as famous British writer Jane Austen. Set early in the writer’s life, this movie tells of Jane’s wish to become a writer and shows the supposed relationship of Austen with Thomas Lefroy, a promising lawyer who later became the inspiration for the character of Mr. Darcy in her novel, Pride and Prejudice.
