On Blu-ray This Week: January 7 to January 13, 2008
Last week’s horror-zombie fest has been replaced by a batch of double features and action flicks – and that’s not a bad thing. We’ve got Nicholas Cage in Con Air and The Rock, Denzel Washington in Man on Fire, and Christian Bale in 3:10 to Yuma. Check out the list in the full article.
From last week’s zombie infested Blu-ray movie releases comes this week’s high-octane (and probably testosterone-fueled, too). Don’t believe us? Take a pot, put in Con Air, The Rock, Man on Fire, and 3:10 to Yuma, and you’ve got yourself an action-fest (complete with the proper explosions and heaps upon heaps of flying lead).
This week’s treat for all of you with Blu-ray home entertainment systems also has double features for your enjoyment. Included in the double feature category this week are Japanese action flicks Killing Machine/Shogun’s Ninja (starring Sonny Chiba), Sister Street Fighter/Sister Street Fighter II (starring Etsuko Shihomi), plus double creature feature Night of The Werewolf/Vengeance of the Zombies. Let’s get to the releases, shall we?
First off, let’s all look back at Michael Bay’s 1996 blockbuster, The Rock. We really can’t complain about the cast – Nicholas Cage, Ed Harris, and THE Sean Connery – and we can’t complain about the action-packed scenes and generous amounts of humor. We can’t help but wonder what would be on that microfilm if it were real. So who really killed JFK?
Another Nicholas Cage movie on this list is Con Air. Instead of handling little green spheres of nerve gas, he’s playing a recently paroled convict who hitches a ride on Con Air. What do you get when you put in Cyrus The Virus (John Malkovich), The Marietta Mangler (Steve Buscemi), and a couple more prison denizens? Ladies and gentlemen, fasten your seatbelts, we are about to experience some major turbulence.
Next up is Man on Fire starring Denzel Washington and Dakota Fanning. It’s a remake of a 1987 film and an A. J. Quinnell book, both of the same name. It’s all about ex-CIA agent-turned-bodyguard John Creasy who goes up against an entire kidnapping organization.
We told you it was an action-fest. You better get your surround sound up and running because these movies will certainly put your speakers through its paces. Anyway, check out the complete list of releases below. Enjoy!
