On Blu-ray This Week: September 23 to September 29, 2007
This week’s Blu-ray release list is not the most abundant we’ve seen, but it also has three bigwig movies to make up with quality. Underworld: Unrated, Memoirs of a Geisha, and The Wild Bunch spearhead this week’s Blu-ray movie debuts and they all go out on the 25th of September.
Underworld: Unrated stars the lovely Kate Beckinsale and Scott Speedman in a modern tale of an ancient blood feud that dates back centuries ago. In a modern setting, the mysterious and aristocratic Vampire clan flourishes with but one threat to their status: The thug-like Lycans (werewolves) who dwell in the dark and dank corners of the city. The secret war goes on without a clear victor emerging, and things get uglier when a young Vampiress falls in love with a Lycan. Find out how the unlikely flame tilts the struggle for power whose origins are as violent as they are deep-rooted.
Zhang Ziyi, on the other hand, stars as a legendary Geisha named Sayuri in Memoirs of a Geisha set in pre-WWII Japan. Sayuri is forced to work as a lowly servant in a Geisha house because of the poverty that she and her parents are in. She endures every pain and trial in her new world until she blossoms into the loveliest Geisha in all of Japan. Even with all of her success, she is haunted by a longing for a man she cannot have. Bear witness to a tale of courage and sacrifice as only Memoirs of a Geisha can deliver.
If you’re in the mood for a bit of classic Wild West action, a story of honor and brotherhood between desperados await you in The Wild Bunch. Critics call this film one of the best Western-themed flicks of all time, and now you can find out why in 1080p splendor.
