ONM responds to new game (NiGHTS) speculation
In light of the recent speculation building up regarding the rumored appearance of NiGHTS into Dreams… (NiD) for the Nintendo Wii, a spokesman for the UK-based Official Nintendo Magazine has stepped in to make some important clarifications with regards to the growing buzz.
Going into detail, we had reported earlier that Go Nintendo member dc12iscool had picked up preview images taken off next month’s ONM, and that aside from hinting that the Wii game under works was a revival of a classic game title, the images hinted the silhouette of NiGHTS – the titular character in NiD for the Sega Saturn.
True enough, NiD fans (this author included, although experience is limited to the comic books) were ecstatic over the possible confirmation of the game’s release to the Wii. On the other hand, given that next month’s ONM falls smack in April Fool’s season, this could just be one of many elaborately planned pranks and gaming myths on the prowl. Just to ensure the speculations did not go out of hand, ONM boards moderator Chandra@ONM made an announcement at the boards to set the record straight.
First, according to Chandra@ONM, ONM was not trying to mislead its readers with a possible prank. The upcoming teaser was meant to keep everybody guessing regarding what they had planned for next month, which in turn upped the hype factor. Second, the game in question may not be NiGHTS, but there was indeed a new game to be announced. “There are quite a few images that perfectly fit into that star cluster. We’ve never mentioned any names – it could be anything,” Chandra@ONM further commented.
There you have it – the game in question may not be NiD due to the clause “it could be anything.” On the other hand, it’s assured that the news will involve an old classic that many of us would love to see go Wii. Just keep a stiff upper lip until more solid information makes itself known.
