Ooh-la-la! 78,000 consoles sold in France

Yesterday, we got news of Europe reaching the staggering amount of 600,000 PlayStation 3 units sold. But that, as we said, was for the whole of Europe. Let’s break down all this record-breaking achievements, shall we? The UK has already reported their numbers; they sold 165,000 units in the first two days. That accounts for a little less than 30% of the total 600K of Europe. What about the other regions?

The EuroPS3Forums reports that for France, the first two days of the PS3’s release left them pretty high and dry with their own 78,000 consoles sold. Sony Computer Entertainment France president Georges Fornay (he’s also SCE Europe’s VP) confirmed this figure, and he believes that after this coming weekend, that number could easily rise up to a solid 100,000.

For France, this also counts as the biggest console launch they’ve had. Compared to the PS3’s first two days, the Wii and 360 sold 75,000 and 49,000 respectively. Even compared to Sony’s previous console, the PS3 launch is 24% greater than that of their PS2‘s, which raked in a total of 63,000 (also for its first two days) units sold.
