OpenTyrian DS v0.1
We’ve been following Deniska‘s PSP OpenTyrian project for some time now, and we can’t help but wish that the project will also include a Nintendo DS version. Lo and behold, a homebrew developer named Dopefish indeed made that wish come true. Check out the full article for more information about the DS port of OpenTyrian.

At long last. Nintendo DS owners won’t be left out of all the bullet-flying-everywhere love anymore, now that Dopefish released a DS port of OpenTyrian (PSP version here), the classic top-down shooter that was created way back in 1995 as freeware.
For a first release, the DS port of OpenTyrian isn’t bad at all. It’s currently a work-in-progress, so you can expect to encounter some bugs. Dopefish has outlined some known issues, which we’ll also list down here for your information:
- You can’t play Destruct (the artillery mini-game) or the Super Tyrian modes, or use cheats, because there’s no keyboard to type in the codes.
- It crashes with a Guru Meditation error if you try to quit the game from the main menu.
- No networking support.
Despite the bugs, fans of classic shooters are highly encouraged to try the DS port of OpenTyrian. Don’t know how to jumpstart your DS OpenTyrian experience? Simply download the game from the link below, and make sure that you go over the readme file before installing the game to avoid any problems that can arise from a faulty installation.
If you’re also interested in contributing to the project and adding some codes of your own, the SDL libraries and source codes are also available in the download. Enjoy!
