Opera Browser for Wii Announced

Opera Software and Nintendo have just announced that the Wii will have a built-in Opera web browser, that will give the console internet access. Just like the Opera browser for the Nintendo DS (announced back in February) it will have a special version of the software. Although no detailed announcements have been made about this the CEO of Opera Software, Jon von Tetzchner, had the following to say about it: “We are thrilled to expand our partnership with Nintendo, and work with them to deliver the best gaming experience on the Wii console and the Nintendo DS.”

Genyo Takeda, senior managing director and general manager of Nintendo also said something about the new deal: “For our Wii console launch in 2006, we required a browser that was fast and secure with support for the latest standards including AJAX. Opera proved perfect for our purposes and is an exceptional addition to both the Nintendo DS and the Wii console.” Nothing special, but Opera is a good browser so nothing to worry about.

All in all, I find this pretty cool, since a web browser is one of the things I’d really like to see on my 360.
