Origami Considered 360 Media Center Extender?

The latest news on Microsoft’s handheld Origami unit? It is expected to be the first UMPC used for controlling media PCs, and possibly even Xbox 360s Media Center capabilities. The unit will be able to play these files itself using a Windows Tablet Edition 2005 style software interface. With these handhelds you could potentially control your 360 from the whole house.

Picture this: got some music on your 360? Listen to it while you surf the web with your Origami. Download videos and trailers through XBLM and watch them on your handheld. Got some videos that will look better on the big screen? Store em on the 40-60 GB hard drive and stream them to your Xbox with the push of a button (or touch of a finger, don’t forget the touch screen!) Organize save games and other files wirelessly.Wireless DVR through the 360 and the handheld?

Pure speculation, but hopefully Microsoft has some interesting connectivity plans for this and the 360, but so far there hasn’t been mention of a Microsoft UMPC anywhere. Will this get people interested in the Media Center? Who knows? As of now, though, the MCE (Media Center Extender) for PC is definitely not practical for the cost.
