Outrage Games reincarnated as Reactor Zero

Matt Toschlog, head of the newly formed Reactor Zero - Image 1A few years ago, Outrage Games, the developer of some memorable games such as Alter Echo and the Descent series, died a quiet death. Now, however, its former head, Matt Toschlog, has resurfaced once again and is trying to rebuild his gaming empire once again.

After lying low for a couple of years after Outrage Games disbanded in 2003, he and another ex-Outrage employee, Jeff Slutter, started working with Quantum Signal in Ann Arbor, making a game engine for which the Army could use as an effective training and combat simulator.

It was then he realized that his passion for developing games had not completely died down yet. Reforming under the name Reactor Zero, Matt Toschlog and his small group of ten have signed a new contract with Sony to produce a casual game for the PlayStation Network. It just goes to show you can’t put a good game developer down.

The working title for his new PSN game is “High Rise,” which plays much like a three-dimensional Tetris-like game. It basically works on the concept of manipulating small pieces of building materials to create a tall and stable structure.

Toschlog had this to say about his new project:

It’s a little like the old days, and that’s kind of fun. There’s a lot more market for smaller-type games. If you want to do a really big PlayStation or Xbox-type game, it’s $10 million to $20 million and a whole bunch of people. Publishers are reluctant to fund that because there’s no creative control.
