Over 9,000 FFXI accounts banned
PlayOnline and Square Enix have been laying all kinds of smackdown on the cheaters and real money traders that abound in Final Fantasy XI. We’ve reported on the more than 2,000 accounts banned on July 21 and on the 1,400 accounts that got the same fate on August 30. So, did the cheaters and abusers all jump ship? Apparently not, but the new FFXI task force seems to be doing a great job.
On the game’s official website, it’s just been announced that over 2,500 accounts were temporarily suspended while over 9,000 accounts were permanently banned by PlayOnline due to “usage of third-party tools or cheats” or engaging in RMT (Real Money Trading) activities.
Here’s a breakdown of the violations that PlayOnline cited on the news post:
- Usage of tools that allow enhanced character movement. (Approx. 1,100 cases)
- Usage of tools that circumvent game mechanics with respect to the timing of ability use, etc. in certain areas or at points where Notorious Monsters appear. (Approx. 6,400 cases)
- RMT-related activity (Approx. 4,000 cases)
According to PlayOnline, this latest round of account terminations (a statement that just promises that another one is soon to come) focused mainly on RMT operations that were active within Japan. PlayOnline also assured the Final Fantasy XI player base that continued investigations will eventually encompass all regions where RMT activity is occurring.
