Paul “P-Rod” Rodriguez Jr. Grinds into Tony Hawk Project 8
20-year old Latino skateboarder Paul “P-Rod” Rodriguez Jr. has secured a place in the latest Tony Hawk Game (PS2, PS3, PSP, X360 Xbox) today as he takes the giant leap from real-life boarding to the the virtual world of videogaming in Tony Hawk Project 8. “P-Rod” is of Mexican-American descent and is a well-known professional skateboarder in the business, making a name for himself in world of action sports and now in videogames.
P-Rod was crowned as TransWorld SKATEboarding magazine’s “Rookie of the Year” and went on to win Gold Medals for the X-Games Men’s Skateboard Street Category in 2004 and 2005 after turning professional in 2002; a feat that makes him more than worthy of a place in the most popular skateboarding video games franchise on the planet.
In an interview with HispanicWire the skateboarding legend revealed a bit about the game’s development itself. While P-Rod was featured in Tony Hawk’s Underground (THUG) and Tony Hawk’s American Wasteland, Tony Hawk Project 8 is the one which astonished him the most technology-wise.
Here’s what Rodriguez said: “In addition to doing a voice-over session, this time around I had to go in and get my face and body scanned. I also had to get into the funny motion-capture suit and skate so that my skating could be put into the game. I was blown away by the technology and it’s eerie how real it all looks.“ With the amount of platforms this game is reaching, lets hope that the gameplay will blow us away in the same way that P-Rod was.
