Penny Arcade: We don’t want to be E3
Penny Arcade is a trusted name in the gaming community, more popular for their webcomic by Jerry Jolkins and Mike Krahulik. They have since then branched out, inevitably it seems, to hosting one of the biggest and most fun-filled gaming conventions today The Penny Arcade Expo or PAX; it’s now on its third year.
Recent “changes” to the grand daddy of all gaming conventions E3, have lead to widespread rumors that PAX might/could/should be the one carrying on E3’s original vision and mission.
“PAX has clearly been growing in leaps and bounds. Even before the demise of the ‘old’ E3, this year’s PAX was on track to attract more than 17,000 attendees with a big presence from Microsoft and Nintendo and scores of other big names in gaming. But PAX is all about the community, and Penny Arcade is committed to keeping it that way. We don’t want to be E3. PAX is a place that hardcore gamers, whether they work in the industry, or not, come to be completely immersed in game play, game music and game culture.” said Robert Khoo, Penny Arcade’s Director of Business Development.
He also revealed that members of the community can look forward to a bigger and better PAX for 2007. Aside from moving to a venue triple the size of 2006, they have also received reservations for booth booth space from AAA publishers as early as now. They are expecting even more potential new exhibitors and publishers to sign up in the future. Meanwhile, PAX 2006 will be held in Bellevue, Washington from August 25-27.
