People leaving World of Warcraft – is this the start of a trend?

In the recent player activity chart for World of Warcraft in online site Warcraft Realms, it shows that the WoW community has slowly been dwindling. This led to a few posts and articles which have tried to pinpoint the source of the problem.

A lot of people contend that this shouldn’t be the case, considering all the new content that has been added to the game. Well, I personally believe that the population is just “normalizing”. If you will look at the chart, there is a very sharp spike from December to January.

Now, you have to consider that some of these players will probably play it for a month or two and just say that it’s not for them. The players who have really been hooked by the game are still there. If it starts dropping below the numbers of November and December, however, then we’ll really have to take a long hard look at this.

I would also like to believe that Blizzard has been banning spammers and gold farmers from the game, and that is reducing the population of the community. But that is just wishful thinking on my part. WoW players shouldn’t worry about this.

We suggest that you should just credit the drop from the most annoying players of the game leaving.
