PETA causing a circus ruckus, Take-Two and Circus fight back

PETA‘s at it again, this time criticizing Take-Two and their upcoming circus-based Wii game as inspired by the Ringling Brothers and (the Greatest Show on Earth) Barnum & Bailey Circus. But the company is quick to defend, saying that they “fully stand behind all of our products.”

The criticism stemmed from the use of circus animals like the Asian Elephant, alleging that said animals are being mistreated. This is something akin to what they complained about with the used of a chimpanzee in the Samba de Amigo ad, also for the Wii .

Steve Payne, spokesperson for the circus’ parent company (Feld Entertainment), also did not let PETA’s allegations slip past them quietly. In a statement, he said that their circuses have always been proud of the fact that their Center for Conservation never failed government inspection and approval “everywhere we go.”

We vehemently disagree with PETA. We’re proud of our animal care. The Asian Elephant has been a symbol for Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey for its 139 year history… the commitment to animal welfare and conservation for the endangered Asian Elephant is something we do every day.

We expect another full-blown campaign from PETA to put a stop to this game any time soon.
