The french government has bestowed the Chevalier de lÂ’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (The Knighthood in the Order of Arts and Letters) on Peter Molyneux. The award is given in recognition of an individual’s conribution in arts or literature. He received the medal from Renaud Donnedieu de Vabres, the French Minister for Culture, in a ceremony which was held last March 12 in the Ministry of Culture in Paris.
Peter Molyneux, is one of the gaming industry’s most popular figures and is considered by some to be one of the best in the business. He founded the company Bullfrog, which produced popular hits such as Populous, Populous II: Trials of the Olympian Gods, Syndicate, Theme Park, and Dungeon Keeper. Under Lionhead Studios, he has worked on hits such as Black & White, Fable, Fable: The Lost Chapters, The Movies, Black & White 2, and The Movies: Stunts & Effects. He is currently working on Fable 2, the sequel to the Xbox hit Fable.
During the event, Minister Renaud Donnedieu de Vabres said that he was “particularly glad to salute today a veritable visionary, who shows for every creation of his own how video games have their place in this stateroom.”
When he received his award, he humbly credited the people who have helped him get to where he is.
I am extremely proud to have received this honour and would like to thank the French Ministry of Culture for this recognition. I would also like to say that I see this as a credit for everyone at Lionhead Studios, all our games are a team effort. I am just the figurehead. It is fantastic to see video games honoured in this way.
It is great to see that this man who has become an inspiration to many game developers received this award. Hopefully, more people like him will receive the same amount of recognition for their contributions to society and to the gaming community.
