It’s interesting how video games can inspire others to create games of their own. Take the case of EA Sports, for example. According to company head Peter Moore, Electronic Arts is currently working on a new fitness-themed game that makes use of the Wii’s Balance Board peripheral. The idea was inspired by none other than Nintendo’s Wii Fit.
While it has no title at this point, this is one of the games that will fall under EA Sports’ new Freestyle label of games that Moore mentioned in a recent interview. Unlike the “Eastern holistic fitness” being promoted in Wii Fit, however, EA Sports’ title will focus on more “western” cardiovascular workouts.
Nevertheless, if it’s one thing that Moore wants implemented in his company’s new fitness title, it would be Wii Fit‘s emphasis on fitness through fun. It’s now up to EA Sports to figure out how it will make the game fun without making it feel like just another workout. As the former physical fitness instructor put it:
The difference is you’re distracted. We need to distract people and not make this exercise feel like work, but like they’re having fun. So mini-games, things where you’re actually laughing out loud, that’s the stuff we’re working on. It’s something I’ve always been passionate about, and who better than us to go and play in that market?
