PGR4 devs constrained by DVD limit, Sony says Blu-ray is justified
With Project Gotham Racing 4′s development team being constrained by the limitations of the DVD, Sony‘s spokesman Dave Karraker said that times like these justify integrating the PlayStation 3 with Blu-ray technology. “We took a lot of heat at launch for including Blu-ray in PS3. Now it looks like that investment is being justified,” said Karraker.
He mentioned some games to illustrate his point. “Take a look at Lair, for example, already pushing 25GB of content, and that is a first-generation title,” Karraker said, continuing that Blu-ray’s 50GB storage capacity will provide enough room for game developers to create good high-definition content.
Because of the DVD’s limitations, Project Gotham Racing 4′s developer Bizarre Creations will not put in different times of day in racing locations due to the disk not being able to fit all the texture data on a single DVD. However, the devs will compensate by providing different lighting models for each city.
