Phantasy Star Universe Receives Technical Nightmare
What’s the worst thing that could happen to an MMORPG? Low game sales? A Massively Multiplayer Online Lag Spike? Revamping your entire game and alienating existing players, causing a mass exodus from your franchise? The impending zombie apocalypse?
None of the above, sadly.
It’s having to shut down before the game even really begins. That’s just what happened to Sega‘s Phantasy Star Universe recently, as server problems forced them to halt operations temporarily.
Currently in beta testing and unreleased on American shores, Phantasy Star Universe was assailed by some really bad technical issues, forcing them to shut the server down. Unfortunately for beta testers, “temporarily” means a month. The good thing is, they get their 30-day trial all over again, a minor compensation but better than nothing.
Ah well. This is why we have testing phases anyway. At least it’s not some sort of endgame boss bug.
