Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Preview
source:nintendoinsider
Capcom had previously released lawyer games on the Game Boy Advance in Japan, but the company is bringing this new DS incarnation, starring attorney Phoenix Wright, to the United States. Should you be interested?
Game Features:
- Lawyer/adventure game with puzzle elements
- Dual screen use with menu on bottom, visuals on top
- 5 cases through 1st person perspective
- “investigation” gameplay phase to look for clues and gather evidence
- “court” gameplay phase to present evidence and question witnesses on the stand.
Your role as a defense lawyer in the courtroom will have you investigating the crime scene, exploring available evidence, questioning witnesses, and doing the normal attorney play-by-play like presenting your case to the judge and objecting when a prosecution question crosses the line.
efralope (12:08:27 AM): The dual-screen comes into play by having text and menu visuals on the bottom screen, while having events and animation scenes take place in the top screen. The story is told with a humorous anime style. Capcom assures players a “colorful cast of characters” be part of the game.
The gameplay breaks down into two main phases: investigation and court. During the investigation phase, you’ll gather clues and look for suspicious evidence or statements that can convince a judge your client deserves a trail. Examples of things that can help you present your case are catching discrepancies in witness statements or a timeline mistake in an autopsy report.
Once the court proceedings begin, you’ll be able to decipher fact from fiction to help prove your client innocent. During witness testimony, a statement will appear on the top screen. Through the bottom screen you’ll be able to continue interacting with the witness in relation to that statement, present evidence related to that statement, or continue onto their next statement. If you want, the game will allow you to look at character profiles so that as you question you can choose the best way to go about each witness and their statements. If you do a good job, the witnesses lies will be exposed, and the evidence you present will prove your client innocent.

When Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney is released this fall exclusively from Capcom, there will be a total of 5 cases (all somehow interrelated) for players to work through. It’s very exciting as this is the first lawyer game from Capcom to make it here to North America, and so far the responsive has been very positive.
