Foxconn, Apple’s primary iPhone manufacturer, has a single plant in Zhengzhou in China that accounts for 80% of the global production. The city is also known as iPhone City. iPhone production is seasonal. Peak production usually begins in August, in preparation for the September launch. It continues through December to meet early demand and holiday sales. Foxconn ramps up recruitment in July of each year to hire these seasonal workers.BusinessKorea reports.
Foxconn Taiwan, Apple’s largest partnership, has hired 50,000 new workers in its Zhengzhou plant in China, according to local media, including the China Business News, on August 8. This recruitment drive is being undertaken as the factory ramps-up production of the iPhone 16 which will be released in the second half this year.
Foxconn announced its recruitment on major job websites and social networking platforms (SNS) in late July of this year. The company offered an hourly wage increase up to 25 Yuan (approximately 4800 won). The Zhengzhou factory also offered bonuses up to 7,500 Yuan, which is a significant increase from the 6,000 Yuan bonus offered just a month before.
Apple Intelligence is said to be a major factor in the high demand for its iPhone 16 line. Apple’s suppliers have been told to increase production by 10% in order to meet the 90M handsets that are targeted for this year.
