phone 16 Pro will have the same 5x move camera as the Pro Max, with bigger upgrades coming in the following year.

The telephoto lens on the 6.7-inch iPhone 15 Pro Max can be zoomed up to 5x with the tetraprism. The smaller 6.1″ iPhone 15 Pro didn’t get this upgrade and retained its 3x zoom. However the upcoming 2024 iPhone 16 Pro will have the same 5x lens. Ming-Chi Kuo claims that this camera will be identical to the 15 Pro Max. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says that more significant upgrades will be coming in the future. The iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max is expected to launch in just a few short months, in September 2024. Kuo estimates that component shipments will increase by 160% due to the inclusion of a 5x camera on both pro sizes. What is even more exciting is what future years can bring. Kuo claims that the high-end iPhone 17 will have a 48-megapixel tetraprism sensor in its upcoming 2025 model. The sensor size is also expected to increase from 1/2.6″ to 1/2.6″, which will likely improve image quality and low light sensitivity. Kuo isn’t yet sure if the upgraded tetraprism will only be available on the 17 Pro Max, or if both sizes will receive it. Looking further ahead to 2027, ‘iPhone 19 is on track to get another significant upgrade to its telephoto camera. Kuo believes that this upgrade will include a greater optical range and possibly more prisms in order to increase the length the light path. This would enable a greater than 5x optical Zoom. It would not be a tetraprism, since it would have five internal reflectors or more. FTC: We utilize auto-affiliate links that generate income.
