Apple’s iPhone 16 will be unveiled in a few days, but new rumors suggest that Apple Intelligence on the device will get a boost with 12GB RAM. Apple has emphasized that Apple Intelligence is the future of iPhone, iPad and Mac platforms. While the 2024 iPhone 16 will focus on AI, it appears that iPhone 17 will be a device designed to push operating limits. According to a blog post by supply chain analyst Ming Chi Kuo on X, Apple is planning to offer exclusive features to iPhone 17 Pro Max. These include 12GB RAM and vapor-chamber cooling. The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Slim will run on 8GB RAM. Apple Intelligence would be available to all models, but only the iPhone 17 Pro Max will get a performance boost with on-device models. Vapor Chamber cooling will be added to the graphene sheets that are already rumored to be in iPhone 16. The increased cooling will result in more efficient operation when the processor is pushed. Kuo says that Apple’s tendency for its flagship devices to have fewer features is partly due to the demand for those models. Apple’s flagship model accounts for nearly 40% of all new model shipments. Introducing new features that are compelling can help to drive customers towards this tier. The analyst and rumor industry is not perfect. Ming-Chi Kuo’s predictions for the future of iPhone have been ups and downs, but component orders such as cooling systems and RAM are things that he has a tendency to get right. Kuo also rumored the iPhone 17 Pro Max would get a 48MP camera for the 120mm lens. If this is the case, then by 2025 all rear cameras of that device will have 48MP or higher sensors. Apple will announce the iPhone 16 Series at the “It’s Glowtime!” Apple Event on 9 September 2024. Apple will announce the iPhone 17 lineup about a year later. Expect a lot of rumors in the interim.
