PlayStation 3 power consumption…in pounds
Over at the sust-it.net site, we picked up on an interesting set of numbers that have something to do with the Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3). First are figures for the PS3’s power consumption – 380 watts. While some of the readers here aren’t too surprised by the amount of juice the PS3 uses up, the next set proves more ludicrous, as they tell us how much that power translates into in English GBP.
The PS3, according to their readings, will consume £ 0.13 (US$ 00.25) for every two hours of use per day. That doesn’t sound like too much, until we multiply that to a yearly total (365 days) of £ 47.69 (US$ 92). To get a better grasp of just how much this would cost if we couple the PS3 with a good TV set, we tried pairing up its figures with an LG “71 HD-TV set – the biggest set we could find at the site.
The results showed that using both will total about 1.4kWh (kilowatts) worth of power consumption, which totals to £1.19 (US$ 2.3) per five-hour session spent playing. On a slightly off-topic note, the PSOne rated the lowest in these graphs, using up only 10 watts per hours, which totalled only £ 1.25 (US$ 2.42) per year.
Power settings were provided for by manufacturers, while money figures were based on average electricity unit tariff.
Just an important detail to keep in mind when the guys in Europe march off this March 23rd to get their consoles – and a perfectly good reason to turn the lights off when they play.
