PlayStation 3's PixelJunk Eden to carry Trophy Support - Image 1We’ve got some interesting bits of news today, at least if you happen to be a fan of Q-Games PixelJunk Racers and PixelJunk Monsters for the PlayStation 3. Sony has recently updated their official site with details regarding a new game in the franchise, titled PixelJunk Eden.

The third game in the series will immerse players in an environment overflowing with all sorts of strange, ever-evolving plants. Aside from growing your own vegetation, you’ll also have to contend with Eden‘s strange cast of enemies and maze-like undergrowth.

While a new PixelJunk game is certainly cause for celebration for the PS3 fans, a quick look at Eden’s fact sheet also hints at some (possible) future surprises for PlayStation 3 owners. Quoting PlayStation.com:

  • Visual Appeal in Full HD
  • Dynamic Animations and Effects
  • DualShock 3 Support
  • Trophy Support
  • Up to 3 player co-operative play
  • Online Support – Players can track single-player and co-op high scores on the online leaderboards
  • Remote Play – Supports Remote Play for PSP system

We draw the reader’s attention to the Trophy Support feature (in bold). According to a related rumor (via PlayStation Universe), Sony might be planning to release the PS3’s firmware update 2.40 by June, close to the launch of Konami‘s Metal Gear Solid 4. As a recap, Sony just released firmware 2.35 earlier today.

Among other updates, this firmware update is rumored to carry a new trophy function that’ll show up as a 2D image on your console’s XMB. This is not to be confused with the entirely different trophies that are to be part of PlayStation Home.

Adding further weight to this bit of speculation is that PixelJunk Eden‘s currently set for a summer 2008 release, implying that it might be among the first games to make use of Sony’s new PSN feature.

We remind the readers that the bit about the new firmware is still within the realm of rumors, at least until we run into more solid information in the near future.
