Playstation Meeting 2005: Rumors of Announcements Begin to Swirl

Source: psinext

With Sony’s annual Playstation Meeting just four days away, there has been some speculation recently that Sony might use the event to reveal new information on the upcoming Playstation 3 in order to take some of the steam out of Microsoft’s XBox Summit – to be held just four days later on the 25th. A recent rumor begun by a self-proclaimed Sony insider on a Japanese forum has taken this talk to a whole new level, however, with bold claims of truly significant PS3-related development announcements. Gaming forums everywhere will likely be discussing these possibilities right up until the day of the actual event, and credit goes to a poster on the Beyond3D forums for bringing these rumors from Japan to the West.

It should be mentioned that there is no solid indication that the original Japanese ‘insider’ actually works for Sony, and anyone familiar with Internet forums should realize the constant possibility of people making up stories simply to create a stir.

That being said, some of the rumors are so intriguing as to warrant publication here, even with the knowledge in hand that they may very well be false.

Make of them what you will:

* Sony will announce a ‘value bundle’ for the PS3 that includes a hard drive, similar in concept to the PSP’s Value Pack
* Namco will announce two titles for PS3’s Japanese launch
* Koei will announce Dynasty Warriors 6 and Nobunaga’s Ambition for the PS3
* Final Fantasy XIII and Dragon Quest/Warrior IX to be PS3 exclusives
* Japanese and United States PS3 launches to be simultaneous in late Spring of 06; Europe and Australia to see launch in Fall
* Team Ninja developing two titles for PS3
* Resident Evil series being developed on PS3 and PSP
* Silent Hill 5 in development
* Mistwalker/Sony surprise announcement (not Blue Dragon or Lost Odyssey related)
* Level 5 to develop exclusively for Sony
* Forty-five new PSP titles to launch by Fall ’06
* SquareEnix developing two additional PSP titles
* PS3 and PSP will use the same online network

We’ll know in four days time whether any of these rumors came to pass or not and keep you up to date with our reporting of the highlights from Sony’s 2005 Playstation Meeting.
