It’s been 13 years in the making, but now it’s finally here. Yes, the 1996 Sega Saturn/ PS1/ 3DO original, Konami produced, Kojima-created Policenauts has finally completed its English localization process. Again, FINALLY.
See, when it was first released back in ’96, a localization was promised then, however, it simply never pushed through, because according to the developers, they just could not synchronize the English dialogue with the original cutscenes. Thanks to technology today, however, that particular problem has just been successfully overcome.
The new localization project actually got a kickstart from a Something Awful member last year, when he started experimenting with inserting text into the game. Fast forward to today, you now have your patch for the PX version. No coincidence, the project team released it on Kojima’s 46th birthday on the 24th this month.
The patch is now live, and weighs in at 7.9 megs, which you can download from five different sources. Meanwhile, Japan has been enjoying this game on the PSN since May of 2008. Maybe we can see it on Western PSNs soon as well?
