Potential PS3 homebrew exploit found, tests ongoing
According to PS3Gen, PSP developer Placasoft recently found an exploit for the PS3 which works on firmwares 1.80-1.81. The information was discovered via a leak from some forums, and then disseminated without much knowledge of what the exploit is.
Now, we can’t give you much information on what the exploit is because the exploit is still under testing, but it is hoped that the exploit might reveal itself to be one that allows for the use of homebrew on the PS3. As we said, information is scarce, but Placasoft has mentioned in some forums that he will be releasing more information on the matter next week.
While we’re waiting though, here’s a video of one of the tests of the exploit. As Placasoft mentions in the video, he is trying not to get people’s hopes up, so for now, this is just an advisory regarding the existence of the exploit. What it does and what it can do, we shall find out next week.
