Imagine waking up on Christmas day to find a large box, with your name on it, under the tree. You open it and find the thing you've always wanted... a brand new PS3. You open the box desperately to get to the precious console, but instead find an envelope signed by Sony's Chief Financial Officer, Nobuyuki Oneda.
Why is this? Well, anticipating PS3 shortages this year, Oneda made a speech outlining a voucher scheme which, when purchased, would guarantee a system for early 2007.
If that sounds bad and you're about to give Oneda a call to tell him exactly what you think, hold off for a second. The voucher system is currently just for use in the Japanese market, and as of this time there are no plans for imposing this system in the US or any other territory; which is probably a good thing as rainchecking probably wouldn't go down well in our stores.
