Way back in the days before Tony Hawk became a household name in the professional skateboarding circuit, gamers had to settle for less glamorous skateboard sim video games. One of the better known titles back then was Konami‘s Skate or Die!, released on the NES 20 years ago.
This old-school skater sim is making a comeback through Nintendo Wii’s Virtual Console service and will definitely give veteran gamers something to reminisce over as they bring back the good old days with this classic game.
For those of you too young to remember this game, Skate or Die! features a classic freestyle ramp, as well as other unconventional skating arenas such as an empty pool while taking the role of two die-hard skaters on their rise to skateboarding fame. The game spawned two more sequels on the NES before fading into obscurity.
It’s all good, however, since both old gamers and new ones can relive the experience with this classic port of the 80s classic. While you won’t be grinding pipes with Tony Hawk in this game, you’re still sure to enjoy the game which started the whole brand of skateboarding sims on today’s consoles.
